Spirit Halloween Brings Fun and Funding for Children to Culver City

As October approaches, our team is reminding families that Halloween is right around the corner and Spirit Halloween stores are now open in Culver City and nearby neighborhoods. These seasonal pop-up shops occupy vacant storefronts each fall and carry a huge selection of costumes, décor, and animatronics for all ages. In addition to selling Halloween goodies, Spirit Halloween locations also collect donations for the Spirit of Children charity program, which supports pediatric hospital Child Life services with entertainment, equipment, and therapy resources. (Guests who donate in-store traditionally ring a purple cowbell to mark each contribution.)

Spirit Halloween Store Locations Near Culver City

For 2025, Spirit Halloween has set up several stores within driving distance of Culver City. The closest locations are:

• Culver City Spirit Halloween: 3844 Culver Center St, #150 (Culver City, CA 90232). Across from Best Buy. It’s a short distance from Downtown Culver City.
• Marina del Rey Spirit Halloween: 13450 Maxella Ave, #240 (Marina del Rey, CA 90292). Former DSW southwest of Mar Vista and Culver West.
• Sawtelle Spirit Halloween: 11854 West Olympic Boulevard (Los Angeles, CA 90064). Former Bed Bath and Beyond.
• Westchester Spirit Halloween: 8820 S. Sepulveda Blvd (Los Angeles, CA 90045). This Westchester location is in a former Bed Bath And Beyond.
• South Carthay Spirit Halloween: 1250 South La Cienega Boulevard (Los Angeles, CA 90035). Former Joann Fabric.
• RIP to the Santa Monica Spirit Halloween store at 1316 Wilshire Blvd (Santa Monica, CA 90403). It appears to be temporarily closed this Halloween season.

Each of the open stores should remain open through Halloween, carrying everything from basic costumes to elaborate decorations. These Spirit Halloween locations (and others in nearby towns) provide convenient shopping for the Westside communities. They also make it easy to drop off a donation for local children.

Spirit of Children Program Update

Spirit Halloween’s Spirit of Children charity program has become a major fundraiser for kids in hospitals. According to Spirit Halloween, since 2007 the Spirit of Children campaign has raised over $145 million to fund Child Life programs across its partner hospitals. For the 2024–2025 season, Spirit of Children is supporting over 160 pediatric hospitals in the United States and Canada and aims to raise an additional $18 million this year. Importantly, 100% of every dollar donated stays local and goes directly to the hospital’s Child Life department to pay for art/music therapists, sensory rooms, toys, costumes, and other resources.

In practice, Spirit of Children funds have been used to hire dozens of new Child Life specialists, build sensory-play areas, and stock hospitals with games, books, and medical teaching dolls. For example, the program now supports over 100 hospital-based therapy programs. These range from art and music therapy to pet, aquatic, and even horticultural therapy. Plus, there are thousands of sensory and distraction items for kids undergoing treatment. In short, Spirit Halloween’s charity ensures that hospital stays are a little less scary and a lot more fun for young patients.
